Florida is NOT Losing People

In case you thought Florida is losing population, that's not the case.  The most recent statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau show that Florida actually gained 114,000 residents from July 2008 to July 2009. While 31,000 more people moved out of Florida than moved her, births out  numbered deaths in the state by about 58,000, and international in-migration brought another 87,000 residents. 3,000 + Volusia County jobs are tied to Forestry.

Forestry plays a significant role in Volusia's economy. Volusia has 707,800 acres, 65 percent of which are forests. Crops account for 4% and pasture 16%. Private landowners own 82% .  Forest industry companies account for 9% and 9% are in public ownership. The tree industry provides more than 1,100 direct jobs; another 2,300 indirectly. Payroll receipts surpass $21 million.

NSB Stingray Stingers-National Champs

NSB Middle school dance team "Stingray Stingers" recently competed in a national dance competition at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex March 6-7.

The team took 1st place in the "Hip Hop" category, snagging the title Nationa champions! The dedicated dancers are in grades 6,7, and 8.

Say NO to Amendment 4

Ostensibly, the ballot initiative is designed to take control of growth and development issues away from city commissions and councils, and place the decision making process into the hands of the average voter; basically forcing each municipality across the state of Florida into a public referendum virtually every time a project goes up for planning or development.

Showdolls Crowned Champs

The Showdoll dance team from New Smyrna Beach High School competed at the American National Dance Championships held at the Orange County Convention Center March 13-14. They won 1st place in high kick division and 2nd place in pom pom division. In addition to these awards they won the Judges Choice Award for best technical dance team.
