New Smyrna Beach - Beachside Parks
Coronado Civic Center: Corner of Flagler Ave. & Pine St. home to the Coronado Shuffleboard Club with 20 lighted courts. The recreation building includes a dining room, kitchen and dance hall.
Detwiler Park: Located at Oakwood Ave. & Horton St. midway between Flagler Ave. and 3rd Ave. Park facilities include 5 lighted tennis courts(no reservations required), lighted basketball court, restrooms facilities, and a children's playground.
Callalisa Park: Along the S. Causeway on Callilisa Creek, this park is mostly popular on the weekends. Fishing and picnicking are available.
27th Ave: Oceanfront park located on A1A on the south beach with a children's play area, 4 lighted handball courts, a basketball court, pavilions, picnic tables, grills and restroom/shower facilities.
Smyrna Dunes Park: Located at the north end of Peninsula Dr. Open daily from sunrise to sunset. Admission is $3.50 per vehicle, $1 per person for vehicles with more than 8 passengers.
Visitors may arrive by land or sea.
73 acres surrounded by water on 3 sides. Dogs are allowed but must be leashed at all times. Over 2 miles of elevated boardwalks, picnic areas, pavilions and an observation tower.
Mary McLeod Bethune Beach Park:
Located at 6656 S. Atlantic Ave. Open daily from sunrise to sunset. Admission is free. Nestled upon 6 acres between the Intercoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean, this quiet spot south of New Smyrna Beach features a boardwalk on the oceanside and fishing pier on the riverside where visitors often catch a glimpse of manatees. Amenities abound, with beach access for swimmers and basketball courts for the athletes. A community building complements the overall setting. The children's playground is near the pavilion, barbecue grills, picnic tables and restrooms. Parking is available at the edge of the beach or a lot off Atlantic Avenue at the foot of the park.
New Smyrna Beach - Mainland Parks
Emory L. Bennett Park: Located in the downtown district on Sams Avenue, this small park is convenient for passers-by to sit and enjoy the shade of a beautiful oak tree.
Riverside Park: This beautiful 8 acre park is located on the Indian River at the east end of Route 44 in the downtown area. The park includes walking paths, restroom facilities, and the Manatee All Children's Playground. The outdoor gazebo is located here and fishing is popular along the boardwalk and fishing pier. The park is the site of many community events including art festivals and the summer concert series.
Dog Park: 2641 Paige Ave. One-acre fenced area divided into large dog and small dog play areas. There is a 30 x 40 shade shelter with a dog and people water fountain. The grounds are grassed with open areas and concrete structures for doggy play.
Buena Vista Park: Fishing and picnicking are popular in this park on the west side of the Indian River on the North Causeway. A restroom and small playground are available.
Christmas Park: This small but scenic park is located on the corner of Canal and Live Oak Streets. It features a small stage where concerts are often held.
Turnbull Street Park: This is a neighborhood park and used mostly by local youth. It features a new playground.
Mainland Shuffleboard Club: This square block of recreation facilities is located between Faulkner Street and Sams Ave. It provides 17 lighted courts for club play, and 3 Bolina courts centered on the Mainland Clubhouse which can house small meetings.
Skate/Bike Park: Offering two half-pipes and several other obstacles, this is one of the city's most popular facilities, open to skaters, bikers and skateboarders during non-school hours, this free park is located next to the Mainland Shuffleboard Courts at the corner of Faulkner and Julia Streets.
North Causeway Boat Ramp: This facility is located on the north Causeway and features docking facilities, fishing pier, a picnic pavilion, playground and restroom facilities.
Old Fort Park: The historic Turnbull Ruins are located in this park along with the historic New Smyrna Beach Free Library. This park is located along Riverside Dr. across Sams Ave. from City Hall. Several paths and benches are scattered under a beautiful canopy of oak trees. This is the site of the annual Art Fiesta in February.
Myrtle Ave. Park: A shaded picnic area is the highlight of this park on West Canal St. The beautiful azaleas bloom during springtime adding a delightful dash of color to the park.
Pettis Park: This 4 acre park is located on Mary Ave. and Duss St., and includes two lighted tennis courts, two basketball courts, a multi-purpose field, playground and restroom facilities.
Edgewater Parks: Whistle Stop Park: Located on Roberts Rd. adjacent to the railroad tracks. Facilities include 4 lighted racquetball courts,
4 lighted tennis courts, restrooms, two pavilions,
3 lighted ball fields, playground equipment, horseshoes, concession stands, a basketball court, fitness trail, skateboard park & two shuffleboard courts.
Menard-May Park: Located on Riverside Dr. and Ocean Ave. on the Indian River. Facilities include playground equipment, volleyball court, restrooms, pavilion, picnic tables, grills, fishing dock and natural boat launch.
George Kennedy Memorial Park: Located on Riverside Dr. across from City Hall, on the Indian River. Boat launch and parking area recently renovated.
Veterans Park: Located on the Indian River at the Indian River Blvd. and Riverside Dr. intersection. Facilities include restrooms, a fishing dock and picnic area.
Rotary Park: Located on West Park Ave. and Carol Ann Dr. Facilities include a gazebo, horseshoe pits, pavilion, restrooms, playground equipment and a full basketball court.
Riverwalk: A scenic, 3.5 mile sidewalk meandering parallel to the Indian River on Riverside Drive.
Oak Hill Parks:
Mary DeWees Park: Located at 178 N. Gaines St. in Oak Hill. Mary DeWees Park is a five acre, multi-purpose park that includes two racquetball courts, basketball courts, a Little League baseball field, shuffle board court, tennis court, playground, restrooms, picnic pavilions with tables and grills, and a Boys and Girls Club community center.
Sunrise Park: Located at 275 River Dr. in Oak Hill. A largely nature-based undeveloped park in this city is Sunrise Park, managed by Volusia County's Parks, Recreation and Culture Div. The park opens to the Indian River and is an ideal spot for picnicking and relaxing in the Central Fl. sunshine. Parking is limited.
River Breeze Park: 250 H.H. Burch Rd., Oak Hill. The unspoiled beauty of River Breeze Park offers visitors a glimpse back into the early unhurried days of Florida's history. Situated on the historic and fabled Indian River, the park is 37 acres with five acres directly on the river. The park offers a panoramic view of nature's splendor and provides an excellent vantage point for bird watching. Reward yourself with an excursion into a scenic balance between people and nature. Fishing is allowed only on the fishing pier. Shoreline areas are environmentally protected. All saltwater fishing regulations apply. The park features a boat launch, playground, pavilions with picnic tables and grills. Camping also is available on the grounds.
RECREATION
New Smyrna Beach Sports Complex: This 68 acre park is located on Sunset Dr. just off Turnbull Bay Rd. It features a football stadium which is home of the New Smyrna Beach High School Barracuda football and baseball teams, 3lighted softball fields, 3 lighted soccer fields, 2 lighted multi-purpose fields, 4 lighted little league fields, and one lighted baseball field.
Hawks Park Recreation Complex: Current facilities include 19,000 sq. ft. recreation complex with heated pool, operated by Southeast Volusia YMCA.
Facility also includes 4 lighted baseball fields with a concession stand and restrooms, a conservation area, nature trail and amphitheater. At the end of the complex are 3 lighted soccer fields with a concession stand and restrooms.
Southeast Volusia YMCA: Located at 148 W. Turgot Ave. off Ridgewood Ave. in Edgewater. This complex operated by the YMCA includes a fitness center, aerobics room, large gymnasium with lockers, a ten/senior room and a heated pool. The YMCA provides a wide variety of programs for both youth and adults.
New Smyrna Beach Recreation Dept. Office & City Gym: Located at 1000 Live Oak St., this facility provides a gymnasium, game room for Middle School and High School youth, and two outdoor basketball courts.
